Frequently Asked Questions

What areas of central Iowa do you service?

The majority of our customers are in Ankeny, Clive, Des Moines, Urbandale, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights. However, as long as your property is within 20 miles or less of Ankeny, we'd be happy to hear from you.

 

Do you service properties of all sizes?

The majority of properties we service are less than 1 acre. In addition to your lawn, this area includes all buildings, hard surfaces and other landscaping.

 

Note: If your property is larger than 1 acre but has minimal lawn area, contact us for an estimate.

Do you service commercial and rental properties?

Yes. If you need reliable mowing at your commercial property, rental home, small apartment complex, cluster of mobile homes or duplexes, we can help.

What about realtors and home sellers?

Absolutely. Many realtors call on us when they need a property looking its best for an open house or showing. We also help sellers who haven’t yet sold their home, but have already moved into a new one.

 

Do you require a signed contract or work agreement?

No. Contracts and agreements typically require you to pay for service even when your property doesn't need it. Our thinking is, when the grass needs cut, we cut it. If it doesn't, we don't. This saves you money and saves us a trip to your property.

How often do you mow?

When conditions are ideal for optimum growth (spring, early fall), we typically mow every 5-7 days. Waiting any longer can leave unsightly clumps in your lawn and put stress on the grass (no more than 1/3 of the blade’s length should be cut each mow). Depending on how hot and how much rain we're getting, we typically move to an every 7-10 day (or longer) schedule in July and August.

 

What if I don’t want my lawn mowed every week?

While it’s not ideal for the health of your lawn, particularly in the spring and early fall when grass grows fastest, we do offer every-other-week mowing for an additional fee. Contact us for an estimate.

 

When do you mow?

​Unless you request that we mow (or don’t mow) on a specific day of the week or time of day, you may see us early Tuesday afternoon and again the following Monday evening. It really all depends on Mother Nature and how fast (or slow) the grass is growing. We also do our very best to avoid mowing when the grass is wet.  

Do I have to be home while you're here?

It's entirely up to you. If sticking around while we work gives you peace of mind, by all means do it. But if you work, have an appointment, or need to run errands, you can take comfort knowing your lawn will look its best when you return. Plus, with convenient monthly billing, you don't have to remember to leave a check under the doormat every week.

Will your equipment ruin my lawn?

​Many lawn companies use large, heavy riding mowers that often leave unsightly ruts if the ground is wet. While these heavy machines get the job done fast, we prefer to use mowers with cutting widths between 21 and 48 inches.   

 

Do you offer discounts?

Yes! All new customers receive $10 off their first mow. To receive this discount, you must use our mowing services a minimum of 4 times during the calendar year in which you hire us.

 

What if I refer a friend, family member or neighbor?

We believe in rewarding satisfied customers who send business our way. For every referral you provide that becomes a new mowing customer AND uses our mowing services a minimum of 4 times during the calendar year in which they hire us, you’ll receive a FREE mow. (You can earn up to 3 free mows per calendar year!)

 

What's your billing process?

You will receive an invoice by mail or email, whichever you prefer, around the 1st of each month for the previous month’s service. For instance, you will receive an invoice on or around June 1 for work we do in May. Payment is due within 20 days of the invoice date.

Are you licensed and insured?

​Yes. In addition to being licensed to do business in Iowa, we carry full liability insurance to cover damage that might occur while working on your property. For instance, our mower sends a rock through your front window, shattering it and thousands of dollars in antique glassware inside. (If your current lawn service doesn’t carry insurance, YOU might be the one paying for all the damage if something happens.)

 

What other services do you provide?

In addition to mowing, we offer core aeration and overseeding, spring and fall cleanups, sod removal and installation, mulch and rock installation, hand weeding, gutter cleaning, trimming, planting and removal, and junk and debris removal. Get more details on these services here.

 

Do you offer chemical fertilizing services?

At this time we do not offer chemical fertilizing services. We do, however, have a list of reliable providers we can refer you to if you would like your lawn chemically treated.
